Traffic Management Plans (TMPs)

A Traffic Management Plan (TMP) is a detailed plan that covers all the key information about how your project or event will impact traffic, how it will be managed and what you will do to keep everyone safe.
Traffic management is required to protect the safety of staff, contractors and visitors while road reserve works are being undertaken.

Qualifications

  • A TMP needs to be prepared by an Advanced Worksite Traffic Management (AWTM) accredited person.
  • The person reviewing the TMP is Worksite Traffic Management (WTM) or AWTM accredited, or has an equivalent level of knowledge or experience.
  • The person reviewing the TMP also has a Main Roads WA account and is subscribed to traffic management updates.
  • The person supervising/managing the implementation of the TMP is accredited with Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM).

Requests for traffic management

  • The City is the only authority that can grant permission for any person/s to erect signs and/or control traffic on City roads or within the road reserve.
  • As part of the notification process, the City must be supplied with the appropriate TMP and/or Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS).
  • Upon receipt of an acceptable TMP/TGS, the City will stipulate a designated time period that the road can be accessed.
  • Correctly trained and qualified personnel need to be in attendance to oversee all aspects relating to traffic management on-site.
Traffic Management sites within the City of South Perth will be randomly audited to ensure these conditions are met.
Please note - Any requests for traffic management must be received by the City at least 10 days prior to the commencement of works.

Further information

Australian Standard 1742.3 2009 specifies the traffic control measures used to warn, instruct and guide road users in the safe negotiation of work sites on roads, including unsealed roads, footpaths, shared paths and bicycle paths adjacent to the roadway.
Any party undertaking work on or near a road reserve, or conducting a public event, is required to prepare a Traffic Management Plan in accordance with Main Roads WA Works on Roads and/or Events Code of Practice.
