Request assistance with capturing snakes.

Snakes are often seen around Perth during spring and summer. They can pose a risk to people and their pets but they are also an integral part of the natural environment and play an important role in wildlife ecosystems. They are protected under the Biodiversity Conservation Act. Snakes may be attracted to residential gardens to shelter in wood piles, rubbish and green waste. Generally they are attracted by a food source such as mice. Around your home, remove long grass and items lying on the ground which may provide food and cover for snakes.

Snakes on your private property

  • If you see a snake in your garden, do not approach it and take children and pets indoors. Most snake bites occur when people accidentally step on snakes or attempt to kill them.
  • City Rangers are unable to assist with Snakes on private property. Residents will need to arrange an appropriately qualified snake catcher or pest controller to assist with removal.
  • Conducting an internet search for a snake catcher in your area will provide relevant information. If a volunteer snake remover cannot be found, residents will need to engage the services of a commercial snake remover or fee for service volunteer.

Snakes in public places, Council reserves & parks, Council owned and managed land

  • If you observe a snake on public land, the City encourages you to stay calm and leave it alone. When left alone, snakes present little or no danger to people.
  • The City's rangers are able to assist with the removal of snakes from City managed and owned spaces, during business hours. Please call the City on 9474 0777 for an urgent response. You will need to be able to safely keep an eye on the snake for the Rangers to be able to locate and remove it.
