Crossings (crossovers)

  • A crossing is the part of the driveway that crosses the verge between the kerb and the property boundary
  • Maintenance is the responsibility of the property owner
  • Minor maintenance such as rectifying cracks or cutting out and replacing small areas of the crossing can be completed without the approval of the City, as long as the works are in line with the City's specifications.

Damaged crossings

All repairs of crossings are the responsibility of the owner/occupier. The City is only responsible for damage caused by City activities (eg waste collection vehicles or council works). To report damage caused by City activities, raise a request below.

Crossing upgrades

  • Owners are entitled to a subsidy if upgrading a crossing to concrete or brick paving
  • This applies to the first crossing to the residence
  • Refer to our crossing application knowledge for further information.

New crossings

  • The City is responsible for approving the development of driveways by private contractors
  • Applications for new crossings, or to request the subsidy for the first crossing to a property, are lodged online via our crossing application page.

Any requests to remove a crossing are to be assessed by the City. If you would like to remove a crossing, raise a request below.
