For reporting abandoned vehicles.

Urgent requests

If an abandoned vehicle is causing a significant obstruction or is a safety issue e.g. blocking traffic, please report it by contacting the City on 9474 0777. You can call this number 24-hours a day for any obstructions or safety issues.

Abandoned vehicles

Vehicles left in a public place, on a carriage way or in a road reserve for more than 24 hours may be considered abandoned.
The City will investigate reports of abandoned vehicles within City boundaries.

Abandoned vehicles on private property

For vehicles left within private properties:
  • Contact the Police to check that the vehicle is not stolen, or a vehicle of interest
  • If the vehicle is not stolen or of interest, the owner is responsible to have it removed.
Please note, this also applies to organisations who have Private Parking Agreements with the city.

Investigation process

  • If a vehicle is unregistered or deemed to be abandoned, the City will attempt to locate the owner in the first instance.
  • If unable to locate the owner, the City may impound the vehicle.

Illegal parking

If the vehicle being reported is illegally parked, please proceed with an Illegal Parking request instead.

  • To report an abandoned vehicle, raise a request below. 
  • An officer will investigate within the next four (4) hours.
